FAQ

Q1 How does solar energy works for?

Solar energy systems normally have two major components.
1) Photovoltaic panels or Solar panels
2) Inverter
Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic panels, produce electricity from sunlight. PV panels generate direct current (DC), but homes and businesses in Pakistan run on alternating currents. The invertor attached with the PV panels will convert the direct current into alternating current. (AC) (Useable electricity). At that point, you can either use the electricity in your house or send it back to the electric grid.
RS Energy offers the best warranty inverters either on the Grid, Hybrid, or Off-Grid as required.

Q2. What are the financial benefits of solar/ photovoltaic energy?

When you install a photovoltaic system on your home or factory, you will start saving on your electricity/utility bills and protect yourself against rising electricity rates in the future. How much you can save depends on the capacity of the solar system installed and utility rates, but going solar is a wise investment regardless of where you live.
In Pakistan, RS Energy can assure you a saving of approximately PKR. 250,000 per year with a 10Kwp system.

Q3. What are the environmental benefits of photovoltaic/solar energy?

Solar energy, like other renewable resources, has many environmental and health benefits. Renewable energy helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which contributes to climate change. Solar energy also results in fewer air pollutants like sulfur dioxide, smog, and particulate matter, which cause health problems. Dirty air is not only horrific for the environment but creates fitness issues as well. Solar panels help get rid of air pollution by creating renewable green energy.

In Pakistan, RS Energy uses the most enhanced warranty appliances from the World’s best vendors like JA Solar, Jinko, Sungrow, and Huawei. Our 10Kwp solar system will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 11 Tonnes.

Q4. What is a solar system installation made of?

We assembled solar panels in parallel or in series to build a solar system. They start the manufacturing process with silicon, usually in crystalline form. Purified silicon is then forged and cut into wafers a fraction of a millimeter thin, and then assembled into solar cells. They then fabricated the cells into solar panels, which are linked to generating power output. Depending on the type of application, the system comprises distinct components, such as the mounting structure (racks), direct current switches, inverters, and wires.

Q5. What will happen to solar panels when it’s cloudy or raining?

Solar panels work well even on cloudy days. You can expect your solar panels to produce anywhere from 10% to 25% of their capacity on a cloudy/raining day. Rain washes away the dirt and helps solar panels work efficiently. But if there is no sunlight (for example, at night), then solar panels do not work as the photovoltaic effect converts sunlight into energy. Remember the thumb rule: PV panels are more effective in direct sunlight.

Q6. What is energy payback time or return on investment in solar systems?

Solar is a onetime investment. An on-grid system comprising solar panels and inverters may work for 20 years or more. The on-grid system has a payback period of approximately 4 to 5 years and gives you free power beyond this period. The battery backup system needs replacement in 3 to 5 years and has a higher payback period.

RS Energy offers on-grid solar energy systems with a 13-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year performance warranty with an average payback period of 4 to 5 years.

Q7. What types of solar panels are available in Pakistan?

While other kinds of solar technologies exist (like thin-film cells), most photovoltaic solar panels reachable for installation in Pakistan are mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline.

Mono-crystalline
Mono-crystalline solar panels are made with a single silicon crystal for which they put silicon into a round and hollow bars called a silicon ingot, which is used to make silicon wafers. We named these silicon wafers “Photovoltaic Cells” which are then collected in lines and sections to shape a photovoltaic panel. Mono-crystalline is the most expensive type of solar panel out there. The motive is that they have the highest energy efficiency amongst solar panels. Also, they have a temperature coefficient. This means that as the temperature rises or lowers, your solar panels might also produce more or less electricity than they normally generate.

Poly-crystalline
They made the polycrystalline solar cells with pure silicon. But unlike mono-crystalline cells, poly-crystalline photovoltaic panels are made by liquefying parts of various silicon stones and pouring them into a structure to give solar cells a square shape. Since single silicon doesn’t have to fabricate poly-crystalline photovoltaic cells, their assembling interaction is more affordable, henceforth they are less pricey than mono-crystalline. Whatever silicon is wasted during assembly of mono-crystalline solar panels is utilised to fabricate polycrystalline solar panels. They are gaining greater popularity day by day because they are much less costly.
RS Energy can help you decide the most suitable photovoltaic power solution for your home. We handle a lot from designing, buying, installing, and after-sales services. We use Mono-crystalline panels with the latest “PERC” technology in our installation.

Q8. What are the different solar power inverters in Pakistan?

Based on usage and structure, we can divide solar inverters into three different types.
We have mainly designed each type with different working mechanisms to cater to the needs of the solar system.

String Inverters
String inverters are the most used inverters globally in a small-scale solar power system. Having high compatibility with the local weather in Pakistan, we have widely installed these inverters in our home sector.

For years, we have integrated string inverters into PV systems and it is not solely a trusted and proven technology, however inexpensive as well.

String inverters working
In photovoltaic energy systems with string inverters, we connect wall PV panels to wires and organised them into a series called “strings”. Then with these strings, we attach the inverter located in the garage or the basement. Strings send all the energy (DC) produced by PV plates to the inverter that converts it into alternating electricity (AC). As we do not have string inverters set up on the roof, so their maintenance is easier. These inverters are durable in overall performance, which results in high competence most of the time.

Central Inverters
Central inverters are best suited to the needs of industrial and industrial sectors where usually bigger photovoltaic systems are in place. Designed for utility-scale projects like solar farms, central inverters have a working mechanism nearly the same as string inverters but with a few alterations. On average, the size of central inverter levels ranged from 100kW up to megawatts.

Central inverters working
In central inverters, we relate the strings in a power station instead of immediately linking to the inverter. We transferred the solar energy produced in DC form to the energy box, which moves it to the central inverter and converts it into AC power. With central inverters, we don't need to use plenty of inverters for bigger sites. Central inverters are reliable and cheap for bigger projects as compared to string inverters.

Micro Inverters
Micro inverters are relatively new in the market and initially, these inverters were pretty expensive. But now manufacturers have worked on this point and decreased their prices to make them a viable option for residential photovoltaic systems.

Micro inverter working
Micro Inverters Work as module-level power electronics, we attached a micro inverter to every solar PV plate included in the system. It can either be mounted on the lower back of each panel or can be attached next to it. Each of these panels produces DC with daylight that is directly converted to AC power on the roof and then it is despatched straight to the switchboard to use for home appliances. They are normally available in a 250W to 1kW range suitable for 1-4 PV modules. When you connect every solar panel to its microinverter, the overall performance output of all panels is optimised individually.

Q9. Should I ask for a solar monitoring system for my solar panels?

RS Energy by Zahid & company provides solar monitoring mobile application at the time of commissioning. All consumers can view the output of the system daily interactively.

Q10. What do the terms on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid mean?

ON GRID
The on-grid solar system, also known as the grid-tie system, will reduce dependency on the grid. The on-grid homes mostly use the energy produced by the solar system installed at his home, but in case his green energy does not cover his domestic electricity needs, the grid will cover the deficit. In simple words, On-grid homes have two sources of electricity. They can use their solar energy along with grid energy.

This system requires no battery backup and hence consumers can get lifelong benefits with minimum maintenance.

“On-grid users after the installation of Net Meter can get benefits against the extra energy produced.”

HYBRID SOLUTION

Hybrid solar systems are like On-Grid systems but can store energy with the help of batteries. This ability to store energy enables most hybrid systems to operate as a backup power supply during blackouts, just like UPS or generators. Hybrid users, after the installation of the Net Meter can get benefits against the extra energy produced. Since the batteries are involved, this system needs maintenance.

OFF-GRID SOLAR

Off the grid means you are not connected to the power grid at all. (Or in Pakistan, if you have a single-phase utility meter you are not eligible for Net Metering.)

Your electricity supply is completely reliant on your solar energy system. You won’t have an electricity bill and your home runs completely on green energy. That is not a problem, but there can be some inconveniences. For example, you must have a backup system, possibly a generator, when you are off-grid. However, this system performs well in remote areas and is best suitable for agriculture appliances.

Q11. Can I go off the grid with a photovoltaic/solar system?

If you install photovoltaic panels on your property, you can still link to the grid. This allows you to draw from the grid when your gadget is not producing all the electricity you need, and send electricity back to the grid when you produce greater than you use. It is possible to go off the grid with an off grid inverter with a battery storage system. In Pakistan, single phase electricity meter homes can’t apply for net metering by NEPRA so they can opt for off grid solutions with the consultation of RS Energy.

Q12. Do I need to install solar batteries in my solar power system?

Solar power systems that include solar batteries, known as solar-plus-storage, are increasingly popular, but can be pricey. Luckily, batteries are unnecessary for most solar homeowners. As long as we connect you to the grid, your system does not need a battery: excess power goes back into the grid, and you can draw from the grid if you need more electricity than your panels can generate.

Q13. What is the estimated lifetime for a photovoltaic installation?

The industry’s standard electricity output guarantee from the major manufacturers is 25 years; however, the lifetime of top-notch solar panels is estimated to be a lot longer. RS Energy offers on-grid solar energy systems with a 13-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year performance warranty with an average payback period of 4 to 5 years.

Q14. How much electrical energy does the solar system generate?

Power output is determined by the dimension of the gadget and photovoltaic irradiation in the area. We commonly hook up solar panels in areas with many steady sun hours per day. In Pakistan, RS Energy can assure you 3.8w per day from a 1Kwp system. For this efficiency, you need 1st Grade appliances and the best thing is we will give you a bumper to bumper warranty. (13-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year performance warranty)

Q15. How do I get electricity at night?

In hybrid and off-grid systems, you charge batteries with the use of a photovoltaic system throughout the day and you will use the electricity saved in batteries throughout the night.

Q16. What home appliances can we run with solar energy?

You can run all electrical appliances e.g., fans, led, lights, refrigerator, air conditioner etc. depending upon the type of the system you have.

Q17. What kind of maintenance does a solar panel system require?

They make solar panel systems with durable tempered glass and require little to no maintenance or the 25 to 35 years. In most cases, washing the solar array with water a few times in a year would be sufficient, but regular dust cleaning is required.

Q18. Where can I install my photovoltaic/solar panel system?

We install solar panels in areas with excessive irradiation, like a roof. But they can be hooked up to any floor such as a sunshade, or on the ground. They must now not be positioned in shaded areas (e.g., locations that are in the shadow of original structures or giant trees) as it decreases electricity output.

Q19. What is net metering and how does it work?

Solar energy is a long-term power solution. Net metering policy is for consumers who own solar energy facilities. “They make their electricity but still can use grid electricity when needed. If their production is greater than the demand, they get credit for contributing extra to the grid.” On Grid homes produce green electricity for their consumption, and extra energy can be sold to the relevant DISCO with the application of net meter. The Solar system gives access to green, reliable and low-cost electricity supply during the system’s life. Residential & commercial customers can switch their electricity load to solar energy to slash their power bills.

Net Metering Procedure

1: Application for Net Metering
RS Energy helps customers in filling out the application and other documents as per the requirements of NEPRA and AEDB.

2: Inspection by DISCO
After the approval of the application, the relevant DISCO will do an on-site inspection. We will assist clients during that inspection.

3: Agreement between Consumer & DISCO
After all the legal documents and requirements relevant, DISCO will sign a three-year contract with consumer.

4: Allotment of License
The allotment of electricity generation license means now the consumer can now feed the surplus electricity produced to the grid.

5: Activation of Net Meter
RS Energy will connect the inverter and reverse meter for smooth transformation of solar power to the grid.

Q20 How long will my solar power system last?

RS Energy offers on-grid/Hybrid and off grid solar energy systems with a 13-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year performance warranty. A normal solar system lasts more than 25 years but unfortunately we have to wait for like a decade to get the reliable answer.

Q21. How do I compare solar quotes of different installers?

If you have multiple quotes from different solar panel installers, comparing them can be difficult. Not all solar installers use the same underlying assumptions and metrics when providing equipment and financing options to homeowners. At RS Energy, we will make easy side-by-side comparisons to ensure that you understand the costs and benefits of each option.

Please consider the following while making a decision:

1) Number of plates to be used by installer
2) Inverter, along with its brand

Q22. What happens during the solar power installation process?

The first step to going solar is to contact the RS energy team to receive and compare the feasibility of the project. This feasibility will include details about solar panels, inverters and a complete view of RS Energy. If you’re happy with, we will conduct a site visit to assess your energy requirements along with your property structure. Once accepted, our installer will complete the required paperwork, and then the actual installation will take a day or two to complete.

Q23 How much would it cost to install a solar system?

Since every customer’s needs are unique, the exact cost of the solar panel system will depend on system size. We make sure each installation is custom-built depending on the unique power needs of each residence.

Q24 what size solar power system do I need?

The size of the system depends on how much electricity you need. Two homes of the same size may have different electricity usage. Air conditioning units and electric heaters are some examples of appliances that carry major electrical loads. The average home solar system is about 10Kwp, which is enough to generate virtually all the electricity for the home annually.

Q25 Do solar systems come with warranties?

RS Energy offers on-grid/Hybrid and off grid solar energy systems with a 13-year workmanship warranty and a 25-year performance warranty.

Q26. How does solar impact my property values?

Studies have shown that homes with solar energy systems sell for more than homes without solar systems. However, your property value will only increase if you own, rather than lease, your solar panel system. In most parts of Pakistan, going solar will increase your property value more than a kitchen renovation.
